Why Agartala needs drone survey technology now
Agartala, the capital of Tripura, is undergoing a major shift toward technology-driven land management. The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), in partnership with the Tripura Government and the Ministry of Rural Development, has launched the NAKSHA project — a drone-based city survey initiative covering all 51 wards of Agartala.
NAKSHA stands for the National Geospatial Knowledge-based Land Survey of Urban Habitations. It is a centrally funded pilot under the Department of Land Resources' Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme, covering 157 Urban Local Bodies across 27 states, including Agartala. The scheme uses high-resolution drone imagery — sharper than satellite data — combined with ground verification, to build a GIS-integrated database of urban land parcels, issue property cards, and resolve long-standing ownership disputes.
This reflects a wider shift across Tripura: as infrastructure, real estate, and urban planning activity increases, fast, accurate, and legally compliant drone survey data is becoming essential rather than optional. Government departments, private developers, and infrastructure contractors operating in and around Agartala increasingly need survey partners who can mobilise quickly, work within DGCA's Digital Sky regulatory framework, and deliver data formatted for GIS and CAD workflows.
Traditional total-station and manual chain-survey methods remain accurate for individual boundary points, but they are slower and less suited to covering Tripura's hilly, forested, and flood-prone terrain at scale. Drone-based photogrammetry, and LiDAR where vegetation is dense, closes that gap — capturing an entire site or ward in hours instead of days, without putting survey crews on difficult or hazardous ground.
